Protocols and Policies: For Your Protection
Food Safety is an undoubted public health concern. At Tannis Food Distributors, food safety is never an afterthought – it is integrated every step of the way from supplier to customer. We undertake rigorous quality control programs, and deal exclusively with suppliers who meet not only the most stringent Government food industry standards, but our own.
Proper storage, handling and transportation of all food products to insure safety and reliability to our customers is a major focus, prompting Tannis to take a pro-active approach to food safety. Our Food Safety Program is audited annually. Tannis has established our own in-house food safety committee as well as employee training for Distribution Center, food safety best practices.
Tannis Food Distributors is one of the first Food Wholesalers in Canada to fully adopt and practice a HACCP-based approach in the manner in which we receive, store and deliver food products to our customers. HAACP is a state-of-the-art approach to food safety adopted by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and the Ministry of Health. The program applies science-based controls to prevent hazards that could cause food-borne illnesses. By following a HACCP-based approach, our customers are assured that every effort is made to insure that the food products they purchase are properly handled.
A safe and healthy workplace environment for all employees is a primary goal of our company. Annual Health & Safety audits guide the Injury Prevention Program to meet and exceed regulatory standards. Tannis Food Distributors is also equipped with an emergency management system, which includes contingencies for many unforeseen circumstances, including pandemic response. Additional features, such as multiple AED units and Safety Mate Units, have been installed for the safety of our all employees and also our customers at our Cash and Carry location.
We work closely with our safety associations, WSPS, IHSA and RWOAC, in identifying and establishing Health & Safety best practices for the grocery industry.
HAACP = Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point
WSPS = Workplace Safety and Prevention Services
IHSA = Infrastructure Health and Safety Association
RWOAC = Retail, Wholesale, Office Advisory Committee
AED = Automated External Defibrillator
